Fall 2003

  1. Amjad was a great teacher. I hope to take another class from him in the future. Coming in having not known anything, I feel confident now because of what I have learned.
  2. The book sucks, but Amjad and Afra was great.
  3. Amjad is Excellent. He cares about his student’s grades and his teaching is absolutely outstanding. He should definitely teach next semester.
  4. Great course, Great teacher.
  5. Amjad is truly a good man and an excellent teacher. He and Afra have a serious concern and care for the students and the subject matter. They were always there for my help. I have learning disability and they were excellent to support this. They are great.
  6. Book vocabulary was irrelevant.
  7. I really enjoyed this class and this teacher. He really went above and beyond the basic requirement of a language course. He made me more sensitive and knowledgeable of Middle Eastern culture. And for that I am in his debt.
  8. Excellent teacher! I learned a lot and definitely kept me interested. I would recommend him to someone interested in taking Arabic.
  9. I have found Amjad to be a great teacher. His enthusiasm for the class is very encouraging. He is the reason that I am taking second semester Arabic.
  10. Great Class, I can’t believe how much I learned. Amjad is an excellent teacher.
  11. امجد احسن استاذ في كليّة اللغة العربيّة!   . Amjad is the best teacher in the Arabic Language College.
  12. I have really enjoyed this class. At times the work load was over whelming, but I have learned a lot.
  13. The amount of homework became unbearable a times. Some should be optional or more always given as far as late assignment. Also, conversation hours were not always held at a convenient times, one should have been scheduled for Fri from 1-2 when a class meeting had been scheduled for those of us who must schedule work and other commitments prior to the beginning of the semester around the originally proposed class schedule.
  14. It takes awhile to get used to his teaching style, but once you do- he is so awesome! He takes direct interest in every student’s learning.
  15. Amjad is an excellent teacher who sets high standard and pushes students to excel. He consistently & effectively reminds students of his expectation level and is crystal clear in his objectives. Tests + quizzes reflect material taught in class. His energy + enthusiasm keeps me interested, engaged + learning the languages and culture of Arabic. He will make a great professor.
  16. Sometimes I wish the explanations of grammar had been a little more “formal” – as apposed to quick and dirty” explanations given whenever a particular subject came up. Other than that excellent class.
  17. This course was the most fun course I’ve taken at UT. Amjad showed interest in our progress improved his techniques greatly after Mr. Mohammad’s visit. And his enthusiasm is likely unmatched for any other instructor. Afra’s techniques also showed improvement after Dr. Mohammad’s visit. Although sometimes her grading & comments seemed arbitrary. I only wish I could have seen of Mr. M. his knowledge, sense of humor and communication style are the best I have seen from a prof. at this university.

Spring 2004

  1. Prof. Amjad is an excellent Instructor. He cares very much for his students and is enthusiastic about their progress. I hope he teaches Arabic II next semester. Conversation hour was much more helpful this semester, taught at the pace of the students, and interesting, applicable material. Grammar, culture, reading & writing were well balanced in the class room. Amjad is one of the best Teachers I’ve ever had in a university environment!
  2. Class was really good sometimes the assignments were given last minute.
  3. I hope Amjad will be able to teach Arabic 2 next year
  4. Very good. Teach next year.
  5. This course is very demanding. Be prepared to work a lot and it would be helpful if the course were more focused on grammar.
  6. Amjad is an incredible teacher who has a strong passion to teach. He really cares about his students. I really hope he teaches 2nd year Arabic.
  7. Great Teacher. I hope he continues teaching those in the class. I think that different standards should apply to graduate students because they are different, higher levels of coursework.
  8. I Love Amjad. He is my favorite professor at UT!! I learned so much and I now feel that after one year, I have a strong understanding of Arabic. If Amjad can make a kid with learning disability like me, learn Arabic, then he can teach the language to anyone. Amjad is the best teacher at UT!! I hope he teaches next year.
  9. Amjad is one of the best teachers  I have ever had. He needs to work on his idioms like: “Lash backing”, “storm braining”, “peniswala” But he mad this class fun J.
  10. Amjad did a great job teaching this course. I learned so much from him & his teaching style is extremely effective. I would love to have him again next year. From what he’s shown me, he appears to be more than qualified to teach 2nd year Arabic.
  11. Ustaath Cool.
  12. Again this course has been very enjoyable. I look forward to the next semester and will try to improve my grammar over the summer. My most enthusiastic teacher.
  13. Amjad is the BEST Arabic teacher I could ever have. Amjad’s enthusiasm & love for the language & interest in the students is infectious. He should teach second year Arabic too. I feel I have learned a great deal from him, and he has inspired me to learn more. امجد ممتاز  و   cool. Amjad is excellent and cool.
  14. Amjad is an awesome instructor. He’s is one of the best professors I ever had. I had him for ARA 506 and now 507 also and I really hope he teaches ARA 412 K. Other than that , I feel we should learn more culture in class.
  15. Maybe focus more on less idioms instead of too many. Otherwise it was a good class and a great teacher.
  16. This has been a great course. Although at times it was stressful, I very well profited off it. I am excited about taking another year of Arabic. Amjad is very understanding and genuinely cares about his students. A job well done!!
  17. I enjoy grammar drills and would probably benefit from more. I think the games and the group work to memorize the vocabulary was the most beneficial. The conversation hour needs to be better scheduled, perhaps in an hour that you must register for so that schedules may be planned at the beginning of the semester.

Fall 2004

  1. I enjoyed the class. I love having interaction & Mr. Amjad can be very funny. Everything we needed was online & updated. When he said he’d do something such as send a conjugation chart he’d do it that same day. We always received hwk, recordings, & test the next day. He was always open to new ideas & made me feel welcome to ask anything I wanted. I used to hate Arabic. Took it b/c my parents wanted me to. Now I love it. Thanks a bunch.
  2. Great Instructor.
  3. Amjad is a great teacher & he makes the class interesting & fun!
  4. You are a great instructor. You encourage people and keep our spirits high. I have learned so much. Thank you for caring so much. Kelly F
  5. The instructor has a very efficient teaching style that allows all the students to participate in class. This method is an excellent way of teaching the material. The instructor is also very concerned about the progress of his students and will not allow any of them to get behind. He has great knowledge of the subject material.
  6. Probably the most effective teacher I have had in my college experience. He forces you to learn the language in order to be proficient, but he does it in a fun and supportive manner.
  7. The instructor did well to help students learn the language. I felt the workload was too high but I did learn a lot from it.
  8. Amjad is more interested in our progress than any other instructor I’ve ever had. I’ve also learned more this semester than I have compared to any other class. He worked hard to inspire confidence in our ability and entertains us all the way- making it a great class to go to.
  9. Perhaps the course could have went along faster and more culture could be added as well. Very good enthusiasm & interest in progress of students. Exciting part of the day. More meetings and get together outside of class would be nice.
  10. Amjad conducted the class in a thorough and enjoyable manner. Made the class more than worthwhile. One possible improvement: more guided in- class drilling on vocabulary and writing skills.
  11. I came to this class absolutely nothing Arabic and was hesitant to take the class for fear of failure, but Amjad made the class enjoyable and I feel I have made good strides in learning the language. Amjad is an excellent professor and he has definitely prepared me for a course overseas with the government.
  12. I really enjoyed Amjad & look forward to learning from him next semester. I would suggest maybe having more outside – of – class organized study groups.
  13. Although there was a lot of studying involved it made me more prepared for test & information stuck with me more. I struggled keeping up at times. His teaching style was unlike any other teacher: very entertaining & helpful / interesting. Somewhat intimidating at times, but only made us try harder. The class is naturally difficult but Ustaath Amjad pushed us . A slower pace may have been better, but I don’t think we would have gotten it all done.
  14. The only way the course could be better is if there were some way to facilitate  more conversation. Spoken practice is the best way I, personally can learn. You expect a lot of your students, which was at first intimidating but all got the best! I know now. Thank you, you are the best teacher:

                                          شكراً انت احسن استاذ!

  1. I thought the instructions to some of the assignments and e-mails were a bit vague, and some of the e-mails had attachments that we never went over, which left me confused at times. Overall though I thoroughly enjoyed the class.
  2. I did not like having so many home works assigned spontaneously by e-mail. Perhaps more structured and prepared assignment would be better
  3. My only complaint about the course was the TA, who although was weak compared to Amjad.
  4. Though I initially didn’t like Amjad or the class, I have come to enjoy his teaching style. I feel he is very effective in motivating students to work.

Spring 2005

  1. This has been one of the best courses I’ve taken in my life and much of the reason was the professor. Amjad made the class very enjoyable and fun as well as very informative and educationally beneficial. It was interactive and I got to have a nice relationship with the class as well. I wish more classes can be like this.
  2. The instructor was always very supportive and interested in my progress even though sometimes I didn’t want him to be so (because I am lazy). He was very knowledgeable and an effective communicator of the information.
  3. Wonderful Instructor.
  4. Great teacher.
  5. This was the best instructor I have had at UT In helping the students learn. He made the class fun and forced the students to read at the same time.
  6. Amjad is very committed to his students always available for help. The assignments and supplementary activities to the text were relevant and extremely helpful. My only criticism is that I wish we had used the language more in our daily class meetings.
  7. Amjad was a great professor. He cared about his students more than any professor or teacher I’ve ever encountered. He has a passion that spreads to his students.
  8. Instructor showed great interest in the students’ progress. He is very approachable, and understanding. He really pushes the students to work hard, and in the end all his efforts are apparent in the students work.

 For fall 2005

  1. Amjed not only taught me the beginnings of the Arabic language but he has inspired me to be a better student and has shown me the true meaning of working to my full potential. I had an awesome year working with him. He really brought the best of all of us. Thanks Amjed.
  2. Amjed is a great teacher. I learned a lot in his class and we had fun. It is a lot of wok but worthwhile.
  3. I cannot stress enough how helpful it was to have so many resources to gather from online, the songs, the readings, the listening exercises were so very helpful and they made the class a lot more enjoyable. I think one would be hard press to find as good an Arabic first year/course as compared to the one I just took with ya ustath Amjed.
  4. Good, tough teacher.
  5. Amjed is an excellent instructor.
  6. Arabic has been my favorite class this semester. Ostaath Amjed put so much time and effort into the teaching of this class and making sure the students learn. He uses a great variety of teaching methods which help us learn and retain the information well, and which also makes the class fun. I love that he tries to make our class a family. It really makes a difference in the class dynamic. I have nothing but good things to say.
  7. He is the best.
  8. Excellent class, fantastic teacher.
  9. Great Professor! I loved going to class, and the environment was such that I felt close to the class by the end. Thank you my teacher: شكراً يا استاذ
  10. I really liked this class. The work is a lot but it is worth it at the end of the semester. Amjed is a great teacher. I am going to be in his class next semester.
  11. Very aggressive teaching style. Which worked well most of the time but was overwhelming from time to time. He was interested and attentive but I was often afraid to ask questions. This class is extremely well put and I am taking Arabic with him next semester
  12. The class was wonderful; I have learned an excessive amount of Arabic this semester! Absolutely amazing. Amjed is the best language professor I have ever had. I am happy I took his class.
